One of my biggest regrets going through school back in the 90s was that I never took the opportunity to learn more about information technology despite having the chance. As the years rolled on, the World moved to the digital juggernaut that we now live in and my lack of computing ability has certainly held me back from snagging an exciting career.
I know that there are many of you out there who just get it, either through self-learning or through school teaching, you can speak in CSS and HTML as though it was your mother tongue and can understand JAVA script and SAP processes as though it was just a game. It is always important therefore that you look to use your highest skills as part of your career and if you are a computer whizz then here are some career choices that you could look at.
Engineer
Many think that engineering is just about buildings and bridges but there are many, many different branches of engineering and one such field is that of computing. Successful engineer Reddy Kancharla describes computer engineers as the future of engineering and with the way in which the World is shifting, it’s easy to see why. Computing engineers work throughout many different industries either has software or hardware designers. If you can specialize in computer engineering then you could be staring down the barrel at a successful career that will reward you personally, professionally and also financially with a software engineer salary being one of the highest in the engineering.
Developer
Web developers are hot property right now as more and more business look to take their brand, product and services online. Equally exciting at the moment is the side of web development that deals with applications, smartphones and tablets have altered the way in which the World uses applications and there are new ideas springing up all of the time. If you have what it takes then you could be the one turning these new ideas in to a reality.
Entrepreneur
If you have computing skills and a great mind for business then there is nothing stopping you from becoming the next Zuckerberg or Gates. The benefit that you have is that if you have a great idea for a website or an application then you can take it straight from idea to reality without needing too much help. Many people come up with great ideas without any clue of how to make it reality, you can use your computing abilities to do exactly that and be the head of your very own company.
Freelancer
As I mentioned before, I , like millions of others, am not the smartest when it comes to computing, this doesn’t stop me wishing to run a website however and the same goes for others. We rely on freelancers to complete a multitude of tasks which probably seem extremely simple to you but for us, appear highly difficult. This has created a huge amount of freelance work online available to people just like you who can make great money from fixing our problems.
Just because IT skills are becoming more popular, don’t believe for a second that your skills are not required, there are many people out there who need help from people just like you.
