With fall disappearing into the mists of yesterday, and winter looming loud and frost-crystal clear on the horizon of tomorrow, there are those who will revel in the arrival of the final season of the year and all its attendant coziness and homely comfort. However, others will see the arrival of the winter months as a cue to jet off to warmer climes and become or remain tanned to a healthy glow (not reddened by a fireside). Certainly, winter sun is a need not so frowned upon these days. Therefore, if you’re able to be en vogue and languorous, why not do so (and with a decadent glass of vino in hand)?
Destinations to Delight in
Some people have been singing the praises of getting away to sunnier lands for years, while others have only just realized how beneficial to the soul sun-seeking seasonal travel is (after all, no-one wants to suffer from the seemingly increasing rate of SAD syndrome in northern hemisphere dwellers). To this end, you don’t have to be a globetrotter of yesteryear, looking at your options regarding how to get out of timeshare ties from an undesirable shared holiday home, to be intrigued by the plethora of worldwide choice when it comes to a hot climate late November onward.
The Cherished Caribbean
Indeed, Bermuda is one option. Although the Caribbean is always popular during winter, for citizens worldwide, Bermuda has that alluring pink sand and its particular pastel houses, and is simply perfect for those who want some sun but don’t want to burn to a crisp. Think springtime temperatures, rather than mid-summer, and you’ll be more than satisfied with making this mid-Atlantic ocean destination your choice this year.
Another option, still staying away from too-busy hotels and not being tied into timeshare options, and yet located within that magnificent Caribbean enclave, is St. Barts. This is the location to explore for those seeking the finer side of winter sun; not the backpacking, nightclub seeking younger generation (there’s a whole planet replete with other suitable options for that travel bracket). St. Bart’s is about peace and quiet, a subtle decadence that rewards hard work. Enjoy the fruits of your labor on this island, with its pristinely white beaches and general luxury of lifestyle.
More Far-Flung Ideas
Of course, if everyone holidayed in the Caribbean, the destinations therein would not be what they currently are. So it is, perhaps, that one is able to choose from locations on the African continent as well. Indeed, it’s not so far a flight as to be a substantial problem, jetlag-wise, so why not make winter 2017 the year you discovered the delights of Morocco’s bazaars and riads; or the Tunisian coastline. Both countries offer desert exploration, but Tunisia also offers a “tasting platter” of the classical, too (for the history buffs among you).
In short, worry not that you number among the few(er) who crave a warmer sun upon your skin come winter. Not everyone can be satisfied with near-hibernation made comfortable with some decorations and the burning of wood in the hearth. Some need the red heat of a more exotic sun.
