Known for its spectacular skiing it is easy to overlook the many other offerings that Utah has for its winter visitors. So, if you are not a skier don’t bypass Utah before you check out these fun and interesting activities.
Most people have a fond childhood memory or two of holding on for dear life while sliding down a snow covered hillside. This fun experience doesn’t have to simply be a memory; by choosing a sled hill at one of the many public parks you can again enjoy the adrenaline rush of flying to the bottom of a hill with the wind in your hair. Looking for a bit more of a challenge; no problem? There are commercial sledding hills that offer a variety of slopes for any skill level.
Utah Olympic Park
Memorializing Utah’s hosting of the 2002 Winter Olympic Games, Utah Olympic Park provides you with a hands on Olympic experience. Try out the bobsled, learn to play hockey, or participate in one of several other winter Olympic activities as you tour the grounds and soak in the winter Olympic ambiance.
Conveniently located a short drive from Park City, Salt Lake City, and Utah County, Herber Valley has many winter activities available from snow mobile riding to exploring ice castles. If you are into trains, check out the Herber Valley railroad with its themed trains that run year round exposing you to stunning scenic views; and don’t forget to take along some of the delicious Herber Valley Artisan Cheese for a lovely travel snack. Then when your day is done visit the Homestead Crater geothermal springs for a relaxing evening under the stars.
Just because skiing is not your thing doesn’t mean that you should skip the ski resorts. Let the skiers in your group go off and enjoy the many professionally groomed slopes, while you relax in the lap of luxury at one of the local resort spas, or sit by the pool having a drink and soaking up the winter sun. If you want something a little more active without being overly strenuous, there are always the local museums and marvelous restaurants to tantalize your taste buds.
