Wake Up and Smell The Roses

Lush's Shower Smoothie in Turkish Delight

Lush's Body Conditioner in Ro's Argan
If you guys follow me/us on twitter {@noellenk1} it's apparent that I have fallen in love with Lush products. I stumbled into the store accidentally one day to buy gifts for my parents, and I was instantly hooked. Since you probably have already noticed, we at Vogue and Vino are product junkies, and love to share our favorite products with our readers! So it goes without further babble that I introduce you to the Turkish Delight shower smoothie and Ro's Argan Body Conditioner. Turkish Delight is a soap that can simultaneously be used as a shaving cream. It's packed with jasmine and Turkish rose, smoothing almond oil, moisturizing cocoa butter and neroli -- an euphoric essential oil, and a little goes a long way. It leaves my skin clean yet hydrated. After Turkish Delight, I move onto Ro's Argan Body Conditioner. WOW! With scoops of cocoa butter, cupuacu butter, almond oil and Argan oils, this body conditioner will leave your skin soft and your body smelling delish for days!  I'm going to try out some more of their products and update you with more reviews.  In the meantime though, have you tried their products? If so, let us know what your favorite ones are!

My {Super} Secret Weapon

Johnson & Johnson's Baby Oil

Yes, baby oil. When I was a little girl I used to watch my mom remove her beautifully applied makeup with baby oil every night. Several years ago I decided to try it but hated the oily feeling. Last night, I decided to give it another go since I was telling my mom that no matter how hard I scrub and rub {ouch!} my eye make up never fully comes off.  So I gave it another whirl and I can honestly say this is going to be added to my nightly routine. Not only did my makeup come off in a pinch without roughly wiping the delicate eye area, but my eyes felt moisturized and hydrated. Genius!  My mom is in her 60's but has such youthful, glowing skin. She told me it's partly because she uses baby oil every night to remove her makeup. All you need to do is apply a generous amount to your fingers, gently rub the eye area and take a tissue to remove the residue and voila!  Proceed to then wash your face normally to get rid of the oily feeling. I hope you guys will give this a chance.  Let us know your thoughts!

#hairtalk by Jen Atkin

{ Nicole Richie rocking a jeweled headband }
We asked our friend and uber-talented hair stylist to the stars, Jen Atkin {a few of her superstar clients are Gwen Stefani, Jessica Alba & Sophia Vergara}, what trends she is loving for Spring right now and here's what she said:

I've been loving hair accessories recently. I love anything from Jennifer BehrHouse of Harlow or Untamed Petals. Their pieces are classic and can dress up any look, casual or formal. If any of my clients are attending a formal event, when using an accessory for hair, I think having hair up is key to keeping the look formal. A modern chignon or a bun are great ways to to wear a formal look with a hairpiece. If your look is more casual, I think having the hair down is a great way to wear a hair accessory; you can always go sleek and straight, or something textured and wavy.

What are some of your favorite hair trends for Spring? Don't forget to check out Jen's blog Coiffed Queens or make an appointment to see her at the Andy LeCompte Salon in West Hollywood! t. 310-273-4100

What's in my makeup bag?

Everybody probably thinks highly of their own makeup bag. I have taken great pride in researching certain products and getting to know what works for my face and my skin type. After all, I've been doing makeup on myself and others since I was an inexperienced youngen.  I'd skip P.E. in middle school and hide out in the locker room with an eager line of 11 and 12 year old's waiting for me to artfully apply that day's current eye-shadow trend. Point being, I love makeup and have blogged about it frequently herehere and hereAnd while I practically have a MAC/Sephora-medley makeup counter in my own bathroom drawer, I'm very particular about the items I actually carry with me.  I realize, most people don't carry 2 of everything, but you never know when you need to spruce things up a bit.  Here we go!
Lips - I have talked about my love for nude and pale pink lips over and over again!  But now, I can get the same sexy lip and keep it on through dinner and kisses because I have fallen for YSL's lip stain; {it. is. amazing. extraordinary}.  Lipstick staples include:
Concealer - Some of us have searched for years, but I am staying true to MAC.  I have tried Cle du Peau {so-called number 1} but I demand more coverage and there's nothing like it.
Liners - I daunt a mini-cat-eye liner everyday either in brown or black.  Not only does Benefit's Magic Ink last all day, it has a very easy brush for application. Lancome's Artliner in brown is also a keeper. I also carry pencil liners as well for inside my bottom eyelid in MAC's Teddy and Engraved.
Eye lash curler - If I were stranded on a remote island, I would need this bad boy with me.  The second I found out that Shu Uemera pulled all their products from the US, I teared a little.  It made our last stop in Milan on our honeymoon all the more interesting as I dragged my husband from Sephora to Sephora to find the one that carried the Shu Uemera eyelash curler.  Well I found it, and I will be stocking up on my next Europe trip. Be careful of fakes online!
Mascara - I was probably the number one fan of Lancome's Définicils  Pro. I was also crushed when it was mysterously taken off the market. In its place: Chanel's Inimitable Mascara - Similar to Lancome's Définicils Pro, so I am a happy camper.  Lancome's Hypnose Drama in excessive black - Exactly as advertised; for those nights your lashes need extra drama.
Face - After setting my powder, I apply Guerlain's Terracotta Bronzing Powder #3 and Sephora's Microsmooth duo blush in Tea Rose Tickle on just the apples of my cheeks.  My tinted moisturizer, foundations and setting powders all stay at home along with my shadows.
Makeup bag - I recently found this Be&D bag at Nieman Marcus.  It was exactly my style, chic yet edgy with the snake skin print and gold studs.  I snagged it up and I didn't regret it, as it has enough space to comfortably store all my items. Lucky for you, it's now on sale here.

What are some of your favorite makeup bag staples?

Prim & Proper
{ summer style }
Plus.. Giveaway!

{ Some of my favorites }
Now that Summer is in full gear, polishing your nails with a bright touch is always a must.  I usually stick to pretty neutral nails, but this last Spring and Summer, we saw an influx of crazy colors on nails and I couldn't resist.  The brighter the better, right? My favorite color right now is Coral and Orange.  I am literally obsessed.  If you can't be daring enough with your wardrobe then start off with your nails! It's Summer so stop being boring and start being bright!  Here are a few of my favorite brands and colors.
{From left to right: Teddy Girl, Jaffa, Snog }
OPI and Essie were among my top 2 favorite nail polish brands that always left my nails chip free and shiny for at least 4 to 6 days.  And although those are still near and dear to my heart, a newcomer with a pretty good winning streak has recently captured my attention...{enter:} Butter London.  The colors are absolutely stunning, not too many to pick from so you won't get overwhelmed. Application is easy and 2 coats always does the trick for a full and even polish.  My favorite Butter London colors are Teddy girl, Jaffa, and Snog {pictured above}.  Favorite OPI colors currently are Tazmanian devil made me do it, Funny bunny, Miami beet, and Hopelessly in love.  Favorite Essie colors: Exotic Liras, Clambake, E-nuf is e-nuf, and Instant Hot, just to name a few.  Best thing... all 3 brands are "3 free," which means they are free of toxins such as Formaldehyde, Toluene, and Dibutyl Phthalate. And last but not least, the pièce de résistance; top coat.  Top coat is so vital to the overall durability and wear of the polish.   Ladies, you want to have shiny, polished nails when your out.  It's either all on, or all off! Chipped nails are not cute, they are not trendy and they are not ladylike.  If you have a few small chips don't sweat it.  But, using Out The Door Top Coat {available at CVS/Sav-on} is a total lifesaver.  I literally do my nails 5 minutes before walking out the door!
{My personal stash }
With that being said, we are excited to announce a very exciting OPI Nailpolish giveaway!  To enter, simply Instagram a photo of your favorite nail design/color under the #Vogueandvino hashtag, and we will announce a winner on Thursday.  The lucky winner will get a lovely gift basket full of brand new OPI Colors including the Minnie Mouse Collection and the New Neon collection, plus a few other goodies!  Your nails will be ready for the rest of Summer and well into Fall!  We can't wait to see what you can come up with!  Here is a sneak peek at what you will win:

in my travel bag ...

Because of my line of work, I am constantly traveling.  Fun, but also exhausting. My career has taken me to amazing places overseas such as Japan, Paris, London, South Africa & Australia; as well as smaller domestic trips to Las Vegas, Dallas, Seattle & New York.  I had to become a smart traveler, or my journeys would be wasted by useless worries of "poor-packing abilities." As a result, I have become somewhat of a savvy packer, especially with my toiletries bag. Nine times out of ten, I will try to bring this bag ON a flight with me so I am comfortable while in flight, and when I land, I've got the refreshing essentials in hand, since often I have to hit the ground running. Here are some of my favorite travel essentials:
  1. Olay Wet Cleansing Cloths: I love these because they remove every trace of makeup and don't dry out my skin. I take these babies with me on the plane so I can feel refreshed in flight.
  2. Kiehls Lip Balm #1 in Coconut: Love this lip balm and the scent is divine!
  3. Kiehls Ultra Facial Cream: I think I may have a love affair with Kiehl’s products (and no they don’t pay me to say that but I wish they did!). This formula is moisturizing but not too heavy. I am able to use it for day/night and anytime in between. Traveling makes my skin really dry, and who likes tight, dry skin? This has become my savior.
  4. Goody Ouchless Ponytail Holders: Constantly using these when I wash my face or when I sleep. But somehow, they always disappear, so I just bring the whole pack.
  5. Chanel Ultra Correction Lift Eye Cream: It's imperative to take care of your eyes and not let the delicate skin around it get dry.  Ladies, be pro-active and think of taking natural  preventative measures now, at your current age!  This creme is fab, and a little goes a long way. I just dab and gently pat a bit of the product under the eye, under the browbone and on my crows feet. You’re never too old or young to start a great skin care regimen.
  6. Benefit’s Boo Boo Zap: The most annoying thing is to get a visit from an unexpected visitor {enter: blemish} when you’re traveling. I dab a little of this solution on before I go to bed and in the morning and I swear it’s gone within 24 hours! It’s not overly drying but does the job.
  7. Brown Sugar Lip Scrub by Sara Happ: Obsessed! Nothing is worse than having dry chapped lips when traveling. When lip balm isn’t doing the trick, this will. Smells like candy too!
  8. Tan Towels: These are a travel safe & fool proof way to tan when you are in a pinch. I am naturally pretty pale and these give me a nice, natural, non-streaky glow.
  9. Oscar Blandi Dry Shampoo: When I am gone on a short trip and just bringing a carry on, I like to take this with me to add some volume to my roots and freshen my hair. Make sure you brush it out once you spray
  10. Nicole by OPI Polish & nail file: I always take a clear polish and light nude color just in case my nails chip. This polish is a chic Kardashian Kolor called “Paparazzi Don’t Preach.”
  11. Victoria’s Secret Rockin Body Cream: Love the light shimmer this cream gives me. I put it on my legs, arms and décolleté for some instant glam.
  12. Jo Malone Fragrance: I truly Love any and all of their scents. I’ll take this with me in my purse when I’m traveling or going out at night
  13. Q-tips: for a quick makeup fix
  14. Earplugs: essential for sleeping on a plane
  15. Missoni x Brics travel bag: This bag fits everything I need and more! Love the little organized separators inside the bag too.

{ How to }
Romantic Side French-braid

With Spring in the air, floral running wild on every fashion trend these days, and baby pink creeping back into my closet for the first time since third grade, things are feeling a bit romantic lately.  I can't think of a better hair-do than the side french-braid to infuse a bit of vintage romance to my "pastel-ly" ensemble these past few weeks.  Braiding certain sections of the hair not only adds a feminine touch, but if done correctly can be a stylish alternative to your normal hair style routine.  I love all the possibilities with this hairstyle: It can be wrapped around the crown of your head, or simply gathered into a loose romantic low bun, or ponytail.  In either style, this look is youthful, fresh and perfect for Spring.   Add some coral lips and blush and you're all ready to go. Just follow these simple steps to achieving a fun hair do, that really doesn't take much time.
  • Step 1: Part hair on the side and grab a two inch thick portion at the base of the part of your hair. Split into three sections.
  • Step 2: Cross the front/your right section over the middle section. Then take the left section and cross that over the 'new middle' section. Note: The "middle section" will continuously change as you gather hair into the braid.
  • Step 3: Gather a small strand of hair from the right part of your head, and add into the right section in your hand {giving you a thicker, wider strand} and combine into the middle section as you did in step 2. Continue on left side, but be sure that the left side strands that you gather will be small since it's only to secure the braid down on the left side of your head. Tighten braid.
  • Step 4: Repeat until you've incorporated as much hair you want into the braid, while still leaving hair half up half down. Finish by regularly braiding the remaining hair and either securing with a mini rubber-band to leave the braid down with the rest of your hair, or by securing with a bobbypin to wrap around your head, as pictured in step 4. For the final touch, take a curling iron wand and wrap sections of your hair for some beach waves. Leave your hair down, or tie it all up in a messy bun or pony tail, and voila, you did it!

And the winner is...
wait, first a note on hair

Wow, well with an overwhelming amount of submissions for our Coachella style giveaway, we decided to extend our contest one more day!  The winner will be announced tomorrow morning! Stay tuned...
................................................................................................................................
And now, a little mention on hair:  I've always wanted to do something fun and unexpected with my hair.  It's probably the rebel inside of me dying to get out!  I've had ombre hair color  for the past two years, {thanks to George Papanikolas at the Andy LeCompte Salon}, and although I love it, I was recently telling my fabulous hairstylist, Jen Atkin, that I was bored and wanted to try something new.  Something that would add an extra touch of pizazz, but nothing too drastic.  She brilliantly suggested playing with color... a concept I hadn't really given much thought about in the past.  At once, I had an influx of ideas, maybe pink tips? Or one bright colored strand? If done correctly, this look can look chic and fashion forward.  Here are some inspirations found on Pinterest that are assisting in boosting my courage to try this new look! Some are quite drastic while others are more subdued. What do you think? We would love to hear your ideas or suggestions in the comments below.  Is this a look you would try?

Sparkle

At a recent gathering, my friend had the most beautiful shiny, sparkly nails I had ever seen. I immediately had to know where she got them done since they were unlike any gel polish I had seen before. She turned me on to Chi Nail Bar, and I immediately made an appointment for the very next day. Since I couldn't pick exactly what color to do, I did five different versions of gold, silver and rose gold; one color on each nail for an ombre effect. I was absolutely in love with the results.  The reason they looked so different is because the nail techs use actual glitter and not glitter gel. They have every color imaginable too. I would definitely go back for a unique design or special occasion. There are only a few more months of winter left, but glitter will be a trend that will come with us to Spring showcasing some of the more on-trend pastel colors for the warmer months.
What colors are you drawn to?
