Wake Up and Smell The Roses

Lush's Shower Smoothie in Turkish Delight
Lush's Body Conditioner in Ro's Argan
If you guys follow me/us on twitter {@noellenk1} it's apparent that I have fallen in love with Lush products. I stumbled into the store accidentally one day to buy gifts for my parents, and I was instantly hooked. Since you probably have already noticed, we at Vogue and Vino are product junkies, and love to share our favorite products with our readers! So it goes without further babble that I introduce you to the Turkish Delight shower smoothie and Ro's Argan Body Conditioner. Turkish Delight is a soap that can simultaneously be used as a shaving cream. It's packed with jasmine and Turkish rose, smoothing almond oil, moisturizing cocoa butter and neroli -- an euphoric essential oil, and a little goes a long way. It leaves my skin clean yet hydrated. After Turkish Delight, I move onto Ro's Argan Body Conditioner. WOW! With scoops of cocoa butter, cupuacu butter, almond oil and Argan oils, this body conditioner will leave your skin soft and your body smelling delish for days!  I'm going to try out some more of their products and update you with more reviews.  In the meantime though, have you tried their products? If so, let us know what your favorite ones are!

Sarine Marie

{ Sarine Marie Fall/Winter 12-13 Collection preview, LA Fashion Week}
I recently paired up with LA based designer Sarine Beberian, the face behind the  contemporary women's label, Sarine Marie and had the privilege of being selected to showcase her beautiful work.  Supporting emerging designers is something we love to do here on VV, especially when the collections speak volumes on their own merit through each detailed ensemble. It's no easy task to mix romance with edge and still keep the fabrics light enough to celebrate a women's silhouette. Laser cut leather, silk chiffon, lace and wool gabardine, these are just some of the luxury fabrics she uses to showcase her lady-like designs. Recently Sarine Marie was one of 12 emerging designers at the MAGIC show in Las Vegas.  The LA Fashion Council highlighted 11 pieces in a private runway show previewing her upcoming collections, not to mention the countless write-ups on her line by Apparel News, Women's Wear Daily, Lucky Magazine, MSN Living and more.  Check out more of her beautiful collection here.

Investment Pieces

Since we like to think of ourselves as savvy yet somewhat compulsive shoppers, we are always on the hunt for new trends and deals.  However, the older we get, the more refined our styles have gotten, the less fussy our wardrobe has become. We love to identify with the mantra of, quality over quantity. We will be the first to admit that years ago, our wardrobes were bursting with low quality trendy items that would be worn few times and later donated to Goodwill.  Talk about a total waste of money!  Thankfully, we grew out of that phase.  To help edit and re-define your wardrobe with classic and timeless clothing, here are our picks for staple "investment pieces" that literally will never ever go out of style.  {You can take that to the bank}!! Think about it, the more you save and refuse to spend on frivolous items, the more you'll be able to splurge on these timeless classics when the time is right. xx.

Oh, Happy Day!

What else could be worthy of two posts in one day other than telling you the oh-so-exciting news that Zara home is now available ONLINE!  Oh, happy day indeed. Enjoy! :)

When Fashion & Wine

It's October, {hooray for pumpkin season!!} and we couldn't be any more excited for Fall soon as this heat wave passes, of course. But something is extra special about this season. Maybe a little wine terminology review may do you good. Seen on runways from New York to Paris and even Tokyo are rich wine hues. Bordeaux, Cabernet, Burgundy, plum, and even a color called Oxblood, the list is endless describing this refined, modern and sleek color. From lips to shoes, leather skirts and pants, this is the Fall trend to watch out for. Oh, and don't forget to pair it with a jewel tone accent to crank up your style. Think emeralds, amethyst, topaz, sapphire, and tourmaline. x.

Perfect Peplum

A recent trend which we are currently loving is peplum. It’s flirty and feminine and when worn correctly, extremely flattering. It reminds me of the styles from the 40’s and 50’s when the hourglass figure of a woman’s body was celebrated and regarded as sexy.  I find that as I'm getting older, I'm adopting classic fashion philosophies of the past.  Instead of hiding my figure under shapeless garments I now find myself wearing things that accentuate the smallest part of my body {my waist}.  A peplum top is actually one of my favorites to wear out to dinner since it also conveniently conceals a full tummy! The key to wearing peplum is making sure that whatever you pair it with on the bottom is either tapered or fitted to show off the rest of your shape.  I recently purchased this Zara peplum top in red {shown in white, left insert below}, and I am in love because the neckline is very flattering.  I also got a black one from Topshop {no. 3} which has become my go-to when I don’t know what to wear with my skinny jeans at night! I think it’s fun to wear a great necklace with any peplum top that has a higher neckline. Peplum can also be found on skirts, jackets and dresses {Zara insert below, obsessed} and can dramatize your look instantly.

1. All Saints Damisi Boot
2. All Saints Bonny Cuban Boot
3. Steve Madden Madhouse Bootie
4. Steve Madden Tyrantt Boot
8. Valentino Ascot Boot
9.  Vince Camuto Wenters Boot

Hi. My name is Noelle and I’m a bootaholic.
Really, it’s true.  I am obsessed with boots.  I don't think there has been a time I have seen a pair of boots I did not like. Motorcyle, cowboy, short, tall, wedge, slouchy, suede, leather…you name it and I’ve had it at one point or another. I remember one hot Valley Summer whenever I would go out at night I would wear shorts or mini skirts with high boots. I’d like to think that was my signature look at the time {and the tacky trend when I was 17}. Now that I’m older {and know better} my style has become fine tuned and refined, yet I still find a way to incorporate boots into my looks.  A recent trend I am loving but had to train myself to get used to, are short booties.  You know that effortless look Kate Bosworth and Sienna Miller had as they rocked these Chloe boots?  Well, as that style grew on me more and more, I realized I may need to invest in those shoes.  Good thing for you, we found the exact same version for a fourth of the price {No. 3}; total manrepeller shoes though!  I love how they look on other people with a skirt, dress or when paired with leggings or skinny jeans. They’re versatile and often can take you from day to night. For me, boots give that instant edge I crave while still being able to wear something girly. My favorite go to boot that I own in black and brown is the All Saints Damisi Boot {No. 1}. If you are looking for some good quality sturdy cool-looking boots, I highly suggest checking out All Saints. They give the vintage worn in look and I have worn mine countless times and they hardly show any wear! Another thing I love on boots right now are details and studs {No. 6}.  I am lusting over these from Jeffrey Campbell but I found a similar and cheaper {woo hoo!} version from Steve Madden, here. Talk about parallel universe!

What kind of boots are you excited for this Fall?

Whether it has a stiletto heel, chunky platform, or even a sexy wedge, ankle strapped shoes are huge this season. Take a look at it-girl, Olivia Palermo rocking her Boutique 9 Doetzen heels, yes Boutique 9 {which means they are affordable, and on sale, here} at an event in NYC and on the red carpet in Milan.   Not only is this style flattering to elongate our legs, it's also perfect for cropped ankle jeans/trousers that you're seeing everywhere.  And don't fret, this style will walk {literally} along with us well into Fall. I LOVE accessories and jewelry. I could write about them all day long..but I won’t {don't worry}. Anyone who knows us, is fully aware that we pile on the gems and jewels and don’t believe in the mantra, “less is more” when it comes to our accessories. We like to call ourselves Christmas Trees since we're always decorated with “ornaments.”  What can we say? Pretty things make us happy and they seem to make other people happy too, considering they always get noticed and spark a conversation. My favorite accessory of the moment is the statement necklace...oh, how I love this look. Case in point; when I am stumbling to get ready in the morning and have a fight with my closet, I can always rely on a simple outfit and throw on a great statement necklace and look instantly chic. One of my go-to looks for Summer is a simple baby doll dress with a chunky necklace.  Go from day to night by pairing it with flats then heels and grab a blazer just in case. Alternatively, I'll pair a plain t-shirt, distressed jeans or shorts, a blazer and a fab necklace. The best part about it all, is I could wear a few of the same looks all week long so long as I switch out my statement necklaces, shoes and other accessories and no one will notice. That's the beauty of accessories!  It's also ideal when traveling and for proper packing techniques. I recently discovered a really fun site, Baublebar, which sells trendy jewelry at different price points.  I also found two J. Crew Bubble Necklaces on eBay for a really great price. Other favorite sites of ours are Etsy for creative pieces, Minusey, ShopDesignSpark or Asos for inexpensive yet on trend jewelry.  What are some of your favorite places to shop for great jewelry?

What's in my makeup bag?

Everybody probably thinks highly of their own makeup bag. I have taken great pride in researching certain products and getting to know what works for my face and my skin type. After all, I've been doing makeup on myself and others since I was an inexperienced youngen.  I'd skip P.E. in middle school and hide out in the locker room with an eager line of 11 and 12 year old's waiting for me to artfully apply that day's current eye-shadow trend. Point being, I love makeup and have blogged about it frequently herehere and hereAnd while I practically have a MAC/Sephora-medley makeup counter in my own bathroom drawer, I'm very particular about the items I actually carry with me.  I realize, most people don't carry 2 of everything, but you never know when you need to spruce things up a bit.  Here we go!
Lips - I have talked about my love for nude and pale pink lips over and over again!  But now, I can get the same sexy lip and keep it on through dinner and kisses because I have fallen for YSL's lip stain; {it. is. amazing. extraordinary}.  Lipstick staples include:
Concealer - Some of us have searched for years, but I am staying true to MAC.  I have tried Cle du Peau {so-called number 1} but I demand more coverage and there's nothing like it.
Liners - I daunt a mini-cat-eye liner everyday either in brown or black.  Not only does Benefit's Magic Ink last all day, it has a very easy brush for application. Lancome's Artliner in brown is also a keeper. I also carry pencil liners as well for inside my bottom eyelid in MAC's Teddy and Engraved.
Eye lash curler - If I were stranded on a remote island, I would need this bad boy with me.  The second I found out that Shu Uemera pulled all their products from the US, I teared a little.  It made our last stop in Milan on our honeymoon all the more interesting as I dragged my husband from Sephora to Sephora to find the one that carried the Shu Uemera eyelash curler.  Well I found it, and I will be stocking up on my next Europe trip. Be careful of fakes online!
Mascara - I was probably the number one fan of Lancome's Définicils  Pro. I was also crushed when it was mysterously taken off the market. In its place: Chanel's Inimitable Mascara - Similar to Lancome's Définicils Pro, so I am a happy camper.  Lancome's Hypnose Drama in excessive black - Exactly as advertised; for those nights your lashes need extra drama.
Face - After setting my powder, I apply Guerlain's Terracotta Bronzing Powder #3 and Sephora's Microsmooth duo blush in Tea Rose Tickle on just the apples of my cheeks.  My tinted moisturizer, foundations and setting powders all stay at home along with my shadows.
Makeup bag - I recently found this Be&D bag at Nieman Marcus.  It was exactly my style, chic yet edgy with the snake skin print and gold studs.  I snagged it up and I didn't regret it, as it has enough space to comfortably store all my items. Lucky for you, it's now on sale here.

What are some of your favorite makeup bag staples?

in my travel bag ...

Because of my line of work, I am constantly traveling.  Fun, but also exhausting. My career has taken me to amazing places overseas such as Japan, Paris, London, South Africa & Australia; as well as smaller domestic trips to Las Vegas, Dallas, Seattle & New York.  I had to become a smart traveler, or my journeys would be wasted by useless worries of "poor-packing abilities." As a result, I have become somewhat of a savvy packer, especially with my toiletries bag. Nine times out of ten, I will try to bring this bag ON a flight with me so I am comfortable while in flight, and when I land, I've got the refreshing essentials in hand, since often I have to hit the ground running. Here are some of my favorite travel essentials:
  1. Olay Wet Cleansing Cloths: I love these because they remove every trace of makeup and don't dry out my skin. I take these babies with me on the plane so I can feel refreshed in flight.
  2. Kiehls Lip Balm #1 in Coconut: Love this lip balm and the scent is divine!
  3. Kiehls Ultra Facial Cream: I think I may have a love affair with Kiehl’s products (and no they don’t pay me to say that but I wish they did!). This formula is moisturizing but not too heavy. I am able to use it for day/night and anytime in between. Traveling makes my skin really dry, and who likes tight, dry skin? This has become my savior.
  4. Goody Ouchless Ponytail Holders: Constantly using these when I wash my face or when I sleep. But somehow, they always disappear, so I just bring the whole pack.
  5. Chanel Ultra Correction Lift Eye Cream: It's imperative to take care of your eyes and not let the delicate skin around it get dry.  Ladies, be pro-active and think of taking natural  preventative measures now, at your current age!  This creme is fab, and a little goes a long way. I just dab and gently pat a bit of the product under the eye, under the browbone and on my crows feet. You’re never too old or young to start a great skin care regimen.
  6. Benefit’s Boo Boo Zap: The most annoying thing is to get a visit from an unexpected visitor {enter: blemish} when you’re traveling. I dab a little of this solution on before I go to bed and in the morning and I swear it’s gone within 24 hours! It’s not overly drying but does the job.
  7. Brown Sugar Lip Scrub by Sara Happ: Obsessed! Nothing is worse than having dry chapped lips when traveling. When lip balm isn’t doing the trick, this will. Smells like candy too!
  8. Tan Towels: These are a travel safe & fool proof way to tan when you are in a pinch. I am naturally pretty pale and these give me a nice, natural, non-streaky glow.
  9. Oscar Blandi Dry Shampoo: When I am gone on a short trip and just bringing a carry on, I like to take this with me to add some volume to my roots and freshen my hair. Make sure you brush it out once you spray
  10. Nicole by OPI Polish & nail file: I always take a clear polish and light nude color just in case my nails chip. This polish is a chic Kardashian Kolor called “Paparazzi Don’t Preach.”
  11. Victoria’s Secret Rockin Body Cream: Love the light shimmer this cream gives me. I put it on my legs, arms and décolleté for some instant glam.
  12. Jo Malone Fragrance: I truly Love any and all of their scents. I’ll take this with me in my purse when I’m traveling or going out at night
  13. Q-tips: for a quick makeup fix
  14. Earplugs: essential for sleeping on a plane
  15. Missoni x Brics travel bag: This bag fits everything I need and more! Love the little organized separators inside the bag too.
What are some of your travel essentials?

Brights Besos

I am probably one of the laziest people when it comes to putting on makeup. Don’t get me wrong I love dressing up at night and getting all glammed up, but for some reason I loathe wearing a full face of makeup every day.  At the same time, I hate that I don’t look “put together” no matter how cute of an outfit I’m wearing. . . Enter bright lipstick! This little trick has become my go-to on days where I don’t want to wear a full face of makeup but looking for a little glam factor.  All I do is put on some tinted moisturizer, dab some concealer under my eyes, finish the look with a coat of mascara and my newest obsession….orange lipstick! I used to shy away from color lipsticks because many formulas were dry and when they would wear, off my lips would be left with uneven color. I recently expressed my concerns to the salesperson at Sephora and he pointed me in the direction of YSL’s new lip stain and their notorious lipsticks {which we already loved}. Usually lip stains are very matte and dry, but not this one. It has a glossy finish and was surprisingly moisturizing.   I started with the glossy stain in #8 Orange De Chine and then topped it off with their Pure Color Satiny Radiance in #13 Le Orange {it also has SPF 15…double score}. The color lasts for hours and my lips never felt dry or cracked.  On top of it all, it's perfect for Spring.

P.S.- Another favorite orange lipstick on a budget is Revlon's Orange Flip!
What are your favorite bright lipsticks?

Simple { Elegance }

All images via Harper's Bazaar & TheSartorialist
On all my European travels, there has been one thing that has always stood out to me:  Simplicity in European women's style.  They have a little something ... that savoir faire, that us Americans are so drawn to.  What is it about the disheveled hair? The not-so-combed through eyebrows? The unmatched but yet so perfectly put-together look; the minimal accessories? Their true beauty and sophisticated style always shines through even if it may be a risky or colorful look.  With Paris Fashion week in conclusion, we couldn't help but recap and draw on some inspiration from these ever classic muses:

“Simplicity is the keynote of all true elegance.”

-- Coco Chanel
