If your anniversary is coming up and you’re not sure what to get your partner or spouse, it can feel overwhelming. There are so many options, so many ideas, but much of it will depend on your budget and what your partner enjoys most. Sometimes the best gifts are the ones that take a little more thinking about than some flowers and chocolates (although you can always give them as well, as extra gifts are always welcome!). Here are some ideas for thoughtful, romantic, unforgettable gifts that the love of your life is going to adore.
Write A Song
You don’t have to be a wonderful wordsmith or a magnificent musician to write your love a beautiful song. You don’t even need to be able to hold a note for very long. What counts when you are creating music like this is the sentiment behind the words. Most songwriters come up with the tune first, and then put words to it, and if this is the easiest way for you, then it’s the way you should start. Think of how your loved one makes you feel and all the things you’ve done together. Think of your life and how much better it is that they are in it. Think of the plans you have for the future. The words can be about anything, but for a romantic song, they should feature your love at least in part. As for the style of music, why not write something that matches your partner’s favorite genre? If they like rock, try to create a rock song, for example. The same goes for country music, folk music, or even modern day pop music.
Go On a Surprise Trip
Trips away together are always very romantic and if you can make it a surprise that’s even better. You may need help with this if you’re not sure what to pack for them, so remember to ask friends and family in advance. Clear the time off work (for both of you), book a pet-sitter and a babysitter if required, and you’re good to go. Have your bags already in the car and hand over an anniversary card with the tickets inside it. The look on their face will be something to remember forever. When you get to your destination, you can take them out for a gorgeous meal. If you learn some common French phrases, Italian words, or Spanish sayings you’ll impress them even more.
Renew Your Vows
Maybe the first time you got married you didn’t have enough money to truly throw the kind of party you and your partner dreamed about. Perhaps you would have liked to have invited friends, but in the end, it was a family only affair. Or it could be that the whole thing was absolutely perfect. Either way, wouldn’t it be fantastic to do it all again? You can if you arrange to renew your vows. You can either recreate your wedding entirely, or you can try something new – the choice is yours! Get down on bended knee and ask your partner to marry you again, then lead them to their vow renewal ceremony. It will take a lot of organization, but it will be worth it. It doesn’t get much more romantic than this!
See The Sunrise Or Sunset
Anniversary gifts don’t have to cost the earth. They don’t even have to cost anything at all. Wake up early and take a romantic stroll or a short drive to a beauty spot where you can watch the sun come up in one another’s arms. Afterwards, you can head off to somewhere great for an anniversary breakfast, or you can go back home for a delicious breakfast in bed. Alternatively, if sunrise is too early for you, what about sunset instead? Make a romantic picnic, find a lovely place to eat it, and watch the sun go down on a memorable anniversary.
Radio Shout Out
If you both like to listen to the radio during the day, you will have heard other people call up to request a special song for their spouse. Now it’s your turn to do the same. Call into your favorite radio station and let them know it’s your anniversary. If you’re lucky, you should be able to announce the fact live on air, and get some music played into the bargain. If other people you know hear it too, that’s great, but remember it’s really for your partner, so make sure they’re listening. Of course, there is no guarantee that you’ll get picked to speak, so have a backup plan in case this one doesn’t quite come off.
Booking a couple’s massage is a wonderful idea. Not only will your partner enjoy it, but you’ll get some benefit too. A couple’s massage is the same as a standard massage except you both get your own massage therapist, and you can relax at the same time in the same way. Candles, aromatherapy, dim lights, perhaps some soothing music or nature sounds – it all makes you feel very calm and peaceful. When you’re both done, you’ll feel amazing, and the rest of the day can be spent in a comfortable, relaxed kind of bliss. It’s the ideal anniversary treat.
Sometimes it’s not about the money spent or the planning that has been done beforehand. Sometimes it’s simply the thoughtfulness of a gift (no matter how big or small) that makes it so special. Make it a point to really listen to your spouse when he or she mentions something that they like (or dislike), somewhere they want to go, some experience they want to try. Then make it happen for your anniversary. It could be something small like getting them their favorite donuts from that bakery they’re always raving about, or it could be something big like booking a vacation. What is less important than the fact that you’ve listened, taken note, and remembered when the time came to show them that you care.
