Get Green

I've always been a proponent of healthy living, but also indulging in some sweets every now and then... everything in moderation right?  But, since joining round two of this insane boot-camp, I have tried things I never even knew about, but things that I now love like, kale, chia seeds, spirulina and flax seeds.  These days I start my mornings with a french vanilla protein shake, almond milk, handful of berries, half a banana and scoop of green powder for extra nutrients.  But I wanted to take it a step further for some additional green detoxification. While researching some new and easy recipes to make on my own, I found a Kale smoothie and Greens soup that I thought I'd share with you. Hope you enjoy your glowing skin, slimmer waistline and increased energy.

Kale Smoothie:

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 cup kale, chopped
  • frozen banana, roughly chopped
  • 1 cup frozen mango
  • 1 teaspoon chia seeds
  • squeeze of lemon
  • 1/2 bunch mint, for garnish

DIRECTIONS

  1. Add bananas, kale, and mango to your blender.
  2. Squeeze about a teaspoon of lemon juice into the blender.
  3. Add chia seeds.
  4. Blend until smooth.
  5. Add a few mint leaves as garnish, and enjoy!
Greens Soup:

ingredients

  •  1 leek
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 1 small head of broccoli
  • 6 kale leaves
  • 1-2 zucchini
  • 2 sticks of celery
  • 4 cups of vegetable stock
  • Handful of Parsley
  • Salt and pepper to taste

DIRECTIONS

  1. Wash and chop all veggies.
  2.  Lightly heat the oil on low heat, add leeks and garlic and slowly cook.
  3. Add the vegetable stock and vegetables {zucchini, kale, broccoli, celery}, slowly bring to a boil and cook until the zucchini is soft. The less you cook the vegetables the better {more nutrients}.
  4. Add salt and pepper to taste
  5. Use a stick/immersion blender, or transfer to a blender, and process the soup, or you can leave it chunky if you prefer.
  6. Add the parsley, voila!

Style Inspo Friday
{Frenchies}

I watched a French romantic comedy with subtitles on Netflix the other night called Heartbreaker (L'arnacoeur) with Vanessa Paradis.  I'll be the first to admit, mayyybeee it was a bit cheesy, but the ending was cute and sappy and right up my alley. Vanessa Paradis on the other hand... in. love. with. her. style.  Oh, the French girl flair.  The feminine grace and completely effortless look is just bananas.  Let's take a look at some Paris street fashions for some style inspo Friday.  Hope you have a great weekend. xx.

a vino weekend

{Dior sunnies (old), Zara leather jacket , J.Crew blouse (old), Zara leggings, Enzo Angiolini riding boots, Scarf from Paris, Zara bag, Forever 21 chain necklace, J.Crew leopard and chain bracelets, Lips Ruby-woo by MAC, Nails Essie's Ballet Slippers and OPI's Designer De Better}
My parents came to visit for the weekend and we thought of no better way then taking my wine connoisseur father to Los Olivos for some good ol' wine tasting.  Though it was no higher than 46 degrees on Grand Avenue, it was quite the cozy experience since each winery was packed with people trying to stay warm. We dined at the delicious Sides Hardware & Shoes, and let's not forget the cupcake wine-tasting combo at Saarloos & Sons which was definitely worth each bite, {Salted ridiculous cupcake, yes please!}.
Be sure check out my Los Olivos/Santa Ynez wine tasting post coming up soon for more deets. xx.

New year, new thoughts

As we turn over a new leaf, naturally our list of resolutions come up.  While reviewing my list from last year, I was actually surprised when I realized I had accomplished some of my 2012 resolutions.  This is completely rare... let me assure you.  But, finally some of the reoccurring ones had been crossed off the list ... {sleep earlier, eat healthier, drink more water, learn to be on time, stop living my life through an iphone!}. So, this year, instead of making new resolutions that I probably won't keep since last year was such a hit, I am going to make one large change: to think different.  I read this excerpt by Charles Swindoll a few years back and I have posted it practically everywhere in my house/work so I can read it daily.  If I can adopt this new attitude for 2013, I have achieved each and every resolution I have ever made in the past, and any that could make any future list.  Hope it speaks to you as much as it spoke to me.
Happy New Year from VV. xx.
"The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life.
Attitude, to me, is more important than facts. It is more important than the past, than education, than money, than circumstances, than failures, than successes, than what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness or skill. It will make or break a company... a church... a home. The remarkable thing is we have a choice every day regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change our past... we cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude... I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% how I react to it.
And so it is with you... we are in charge of our attitudes."
